El 2023 nos ha dado muchas alegrías en el cine. Hemos visto películas que nos enseñaron la fuerza que tienen las amistades, otras que puede existir un mundo sin racismo si conseguimos unirnos y dejar de lado las hostilidades, y otras que hay amores que nunca se olvidan. Barbie, de Greta Gerwig, es la película más taquillera del 2023 tanto en España como en otros países del mundo. Los que la visteis, sabréis que busca denunciar el estigma del patriarcado de una forma casi paródica. En Italia, para sorpresa de todo el mundo, la película más taquillera también denuncia la sociedad patriarcal, pero no es una producción norteamericana, sino una producción nacional. Estamos hablando de Siempre nos quedará mañana, ópera prima como directora de Paola Cortellesi.

La esperanza de un futuro mejor
Roma, 1946. A pesar de la pobreza tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial, los italianos están deseosos del cambio y cuentan los días para la llegada del Referéndum Constitucional, cuyo resultado marcaría el rumbo de la nación: volver a la monarquía o crear una república constitucional.
Seguimos la vida de Delia, quien, a parte de realizar las tareas de casa como cocinar, limpiar o cuidar del suegro encamado, sale todos los días a trabajar en diferentes oficios para conseguir un poco más de dinero. Pero, a pesar de sus esfuerzos, en cuanto comete el mínimo error su marido no duda en pegarle. Un acto que ya se ha convertido en rutinario, en una danza en la que el marido muestra su superioridad, y en la que Delia se encuentra atrapada.
Pero el miedo de Delia no es el que le transmite el marido, sino el futuro que le aguarda a su hija, Marcella, una adolescente que menosprecia a la madre por su actitud pasiva ante la violencia del marido y que, según la sociedad en la que viven, lo único a lo que puede aspirar es a casarse bien.
Así que a Delia solo le queda una cosa, agarrarse a la esperanza de un futuro mejor, motivo por el cual decide actuar.

El neorrealismo de hoy en día
Siempre nos quedará mañana tiene un corte clásico que, sin duda, recuerda a las grandes películas del neorrealismo italiano. No solamente por la elección del blanco y negro y por enseñar escenas cotidianas de la posguerra romana, sino también por su voluntad de ser una película de denuncia social y de instrumento político.
Pero a pesar de esto, y para conseguir llegar al público de hoy en día, Paola Cortellesi acerca los temas del neorrealismo a la narrativa del cine actual. Por lo tanto se aleja del naturalismo y de los silencios típicos de las películas de Rossellini o De Sica con escenas casi teatralizadas, haciendo diferentes juegos de luces y rompiendo la rigurosidad histórica con la elección de música actual. Un gesto para que el espectador no se olvide de que, a pesar de que sea una historia ambientada en los cuarenta, la situación que vive Delia en su casa, por desgracia, la siguen viviendo hoy en día muchas mujeres, independientemente del origen que tenga cada familia.

Sin duda Delia, la protagonista de Siempre nos quedará mañana, nos recuerda en ciertos aspectos a Pina (Anna Magnani) en Roma Cittá Aperta: una mujer trabajadora y que, respecto a los demás personajes de la película de Rossellini, representa la esperanza. Es de hecho su prometido quien, en el momento en el que ella se derrumba, le recuerda que «será difícil el camino, pero llegaremos a ver un mundo mejor y, sobre todo, lo podrán ver nuestros hijos».
Pero Rossellini y los demás directores del neorrealismo buscaban en el cine una herramienta social para mostrar las cosas tal y como eran. Un cine útil, como ellos mismos lo definieron, que muchas veces se ha definido como pesimista cuando simplemente se alejaba del tradicional “final feliz”. Algo de lo que, en cambio, Paola Cortellesi se distancia, dejándonos con un sabor mucho más dulce y mucho más esperanzador porque, como dice su título original en italiano, «c’è ancora domani», “aún queda un mañana”.
