Pero hay muchas formas de ser infiel, muchas razones por las que tomar esa decisión (o no poder dejar de tomarla) y muchas maneras de sentirse al respecto. Y aunque yo seré siempre defensora de que el diálogo en pareja y la búsqueda conjunta de soluciones deberían evitar que seamos deshonestos con alguien a quien queremos, también lo soy de intentar empatizar y de mirar y tratar con mucho cuidado algo tan complejo como los sentimientos y las relaciones. Por eso, quizá, he disfrutado tanto de las divagaciones de Tregua(s), el primer largometraje del director y dramaturgo Mario Hernández, que cuenta la historia de amor entre dos infieles.

Edu y Ara, guionista y actriz, se reúnen en una habitación de hotel (que paga producción) en el Festival de cine de Málaga después de un año sin verse. Se conocieron cuando sus carreras apenas comenzaban, hace más de una década, y estas les han permitido reencontrarse desde entonces en distintos eventos y mantener una larga historia hecha de excepciones mientras sus relaciones “oficiales” iban, venían y se acababan quedando. Aunque ambos se detienen mucho en las palabras, no encuentran una, ni en la jerga moderna ni en la antigua, que explique qué son exactamente («follamigos, amigos que follan, ¿aminovios?»). Pero lo seguirán siendo «hasta que uno de los dos deje de querer», y tienen para sí días aislados en los años que corren, ratos estirados entre ceremonias y conferencias.
Mario Hernández solo necesita uno de esos preciados días para contarnos su historia, que empieza, por supuesto, por el sexo. Es la capa más superficial de su relación, la más obvia, la primera que hay que quitar para entender el resto y descartar la tentación de reducirlos a mera lujuria y frivolidad. Ya en esa primera escena, que los observa de lejos pero sin dejar nunca de mirar, queda patente la tierna complicidad entre los protagonistas que, sin embargo, aún no es suficiente para que nos enganchemos a ellos.
Ese paso lo damos sin darnos cuenta cuando la película comienza a rascar en sus entrañas, con sencillez y sobriedad, sin abandonarse demasiado al drama ni a la comedia. Nos ganan las confesiones a medias, los celos irracionales pero inevitables, los juegos que son solo suyos, los debates sobre el amor, el trabajo y el egoísmo, la culpabilidad por no sentir culpa, la nostalgia de una vida no vivida, o los intentos de explicarse a sí mismos por qué hacen lo que hacen.
«Igual necesitamos treguas de una vida feliz».
Ya lo sugieren los largos planos sostenidos en escenas dilatadas pero acogedoras, que encapsulan la sensación de estar suspendido en el tiempo. Sus encuentros los liberan durante unas horas de la presión de la realidad. Se instalan en una especie de limbo tan acotado que invita a no pensar en nada que no sean ellos para asegurarse de que lo aprovechan todo lo posible. ¿Y quién no quiere desconectar un rato de su vida, sea o no satisfactoria en general, olvidarse de lo que va a pasar al día siguiente o de lo que se dejó sin hacer el anterior?

Este exilio de las responsabilidades y compromisos habituales, además, va de la mano de cierta inmadurez transitoria. ¿Son esas citas a escondidas una forma de rejuvenecer, de abstraerse de la vida adulta, de volver a experimentar emociones del pasado? Su relación es más larga que cualquiera de las que mantienen (en las que se habla de hijos y de matrimonio), pero se conserva mucho más fresca, despojada de la rutina y habiéndose experimentado como tal solamente en un puñado de días a lo largo de esa década. Los años no han pasado realmente por ella, no la han erosionado, y por eso cuando están juntos pueden llegar a sentir que tampoco han pasado por ellos
Pero lo cierto es que el tiempo no ha dejado de correr y de traer consigo cambios difíciles de ignorar. Quizá por eso esta vez es distinta. Esta noche el mundo exterior se cuela en su burbuja, porque por primera vez podría poner en jaque su statu quo. Así que los amantes hablan y hablan, y divagan, y teorizan y se plantean cuestiones que nunca llegan a responder. Entre lo que dicen y lo que callan afloran tensiones que se deshacen en bromas y se contraen después en nudos en el estómago. Y en ese accidentado recorrido emocional que es Tregua(s), Ara y Edu, interpretados estupendamente por Bruna Cusí y Salva Reina, seducen a su público con su química irrefrenable, sus contradicciones irreprochables y su confusa seguridad.
Porque aunque todas las justificaciones puedan ser válidas, quizá la única que importa es que se quieren: no es solo sexo, no es una distracción ni un capricho. Entre ellos existe un amor que no discrimina sus sentimientos por sus parejas ni su compromiso con sus vidas reales, pero que tampoco se deja sofocar por todo ello. Un amor capaz de vivir en los puntos ciegos del tiempo.
